Leverkusen Make History: Unbeaten Run Takes Them to Europa League Final


Unbeaten Leverkusen makes it to the final of the Europa League after 22 years



Leverkusen overcame a late deficit to defeat Roma 2-2 and win the second leg of their semi-final 4-2 on aggregate, extending their unbeaten streak to 49 games and guaranteeing a spot in their first Europa League final in 22 years.


On May 22, they will play Atalanta, another Italian team, in the championship game in Dublin.


Roma made the first openings of the game, one of which came from Romelu Lukaku and forced Matěj Kovář to immediately come off his line and block, according to Uefa.com. Roma opened the game well. Leverkusen, on the other hand, had the better openings for the majority of the first half; nonetheless, Exequiel Palacios' shot that struck the post was the closest to them.


According to Uefa.com, Roma got off to a strong start and created the first openings of the match, one of which came from Romelu Lukaku and forced Matěj Kovář to move swiftly off his line and block. Otherwise, Leverkusen had the better opportunities for the whole of the first half; nonetheless, they were only able to come near once, through a shot by Exequiel Palacios that struck both the post and Mile Svilar's back before the ball was jumbled clear.


Playing against his parent club, Jonathan Tah hauled down Sardar Azmoun, giving the visitors a chance to capitalize on the openings that were squandered. Before the half, Leandro Paredes' team had reduced their overall deficit in half thanks to a penalty kick in the middle.


Leverkusen intensified their pressure after the break, scoring on their twenty-first attempt, but Roma scored again, this time from the penalty spot. Once again, Paredes finished strongly to bring the score back to par. Adam Hložek was given a handball penalty this time.
