Lagos Expands Clean Energy Options with Five Additional Hubs

The Lagos government intends to build five more hubs for alternate energy sources

The Lagos State Government said that, as part of its efforts to maintain its push for a successful 24-hour economy, it has completed plans to establish five more power hubs throughout the state. The goal is to provide inhabitants with additional sustainable energy options.

This was announced at the Ministerial Press Briefing to commemorate the start of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's second term, which was held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa, Ikeja, by State Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Biodun Ogunleye.

Ogunleye emphasized that renewable energy was the cornerstone of the government's clean electricity plans for Lagos, saying that the extra power hubs planned would complement the six solar POCS (Proof of Concept) and provide Lagosians with a superior option to the city's power supply.

Additionally, the commissioner mentioned that around ten locations were taken into consideration for the project, including the Egbin terminal plant site, Ikorodu, Badagry, Agbara, Ogudu, and others, and that there were plans to construct one gigawatt of grid-scale solar energy capacity for the clean Lagos electricity market.

He also revealed that in order to lessen minor traders' reliance on firewood and other filthy sources in Lagos, the administration of Governor Sanwo-Olu had given out over 10,000 gas tubes to them.

Just as he had claimed, this was the state

“We have distributed over 10,000 gas tubes to the residents to abandon other unclean energy. We believe that this source is better and healthy for the traders and other Lagosians patronising them.

“While we are encouraging this, the government will be intensifying enforcement to curb haphazard establishment of gas plants and shops in the state. This is to ensure that everyone adheres to safety,” he said.

“The Lagos State Government would be partnering with the Federal Government to ensure both gas and fuel stations do not cause harm to the people in the state. We want to ensure that our people are safe in Lagos,” he added.

This came at the same moment that he said the state government will step up enforcement to stop the haphazard construction of gas plants and stores throughout the state, claiming that this was done to make sure that everyone followed safety guidelines.

He stated that in order to guarantee that petrol outlets and the federal government both reach this objective, the state and federal governments would collaborate.
