Kano State Governor Gives Ousted Emirs 48-Hour Ultimatum to Vacate

The governor of Kano State gives the ousted emirs 48 hours to turn in their palace keys and leave.

The governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has given the deposed emirs of the five emirates 48 hours to leave their official palaces and homes and turn them over to the Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

The order primarily affects the five emirs nominated by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

Kano emirate was divided into five by Ganduje, who also named an emir for each. The recently established Emirates included Karaye, Gaya, Bichi, and Rano.

However, Ganduje's modifications were undone by the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP)-controlled Kano House of Assembly.

Governor Yusuf received the measure from the parliamentarians and signed it into law on Thursday night.
