Interpol African Cybercrime Units Elected Nigeria's Police Commissioner As Their Chairperson

NIGERIAN commissioner of police Uche Henry has been picked by the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) to lead the Africa working group on cybercrime.

Henry was chosen at the 10th Africa working group meeting for heads of units against cybercrime, which was held in Abuja from April 29 to May 3.

Ratjindua Tjivikua of Namibia, whose term as police commissioner just ended, is succeeded.

Henry is the commissioner of police in charge of the national cybercrime center of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

He was named the NPF cybercrime unit's director in 2022.

Henry pledged in his victory speech to spearhead the team's efforts to battle cybercrimes throughout Africa.

He urged member units to work together more closely in order to strengthen regional efforts to prevent and investigate cybercrimes.

He emphasized that in order to solve Africa's distinct socio-cultural cyber security concerns, local solutions must be adopted.

The inspector general of police, Kayode Egbetokun, was cited by force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi as adding that Henry's election is evidence of his proficiency in fighting cybercrimes.

Egbetokun pushed the commissioner of police to take major action to advance cyber security in Africa.
