EPL: Liverpool Appoint Arne Slot as New Manage

Arne Slot is officially the new manager of Liverpool

The Premier League team announced on Monday that Arne Slot, the coach of Feyenoord, will succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

The 45-year-old Dutchman will become head coach of Liverpool on June 1st, subject to obtaining a work permit, the team announced in a statement.

Sky Sports claimed it understood Arne Slot had signed a three-year contract, however the club did not clarify in their announcement how long the arrangement would last.

It has been widely known that Slot is joining Liverpool; according to reports, a compensation agreement for up to £9.4 million ($12 million) has been reached.

Klopp announced his departure in January and bowed out with a 2-0 win over Wolves in his final game on Sunday.

At his last Eredivisie club pre-match press conference on Friday, he stated that Anfield was his next stop.

The German asked supporters to fully back Slot during his farewell address to the Anfield throng.

He said: “You welcome the new manager like you welcomed me.

“You go all-in from the first day. And you keep believing and you push the team.” 

Arne Slot joined Feyenoord in 2021, following a successful stint as manager of AZ Alkmaar, where he made a promising start to his managerial career

He took the Dutch team to the Europa Conference League final in his first season, losing 1-0 to Mourinho's Roma.

Slot then led Feyenoord to a historic league title in the 2022-23 season, ending a 24-year drought, and was rewarded with a new three-year contract extension.

“You can see people are genuinely sorry you are leaving,” he said on Friday.

“You can say that with words, but when you see it in people's faces, it affects me quite a lot.”

Feyenoord have had a successful season, lifting the Dutch Cup and finishing as runners-up in the league, behind the dominant PSV Eindhoven team.

Virgil van Dijk has endorsed Arne Slot's attacking approach, saying it fits Liverpool's Anfield philosophy.
