EPL: Foden and Palmer Headline Shortlist for Premier League Young Player of the Year
Leading nominees for Premier League Young Player of the Year are Foden and Palmer
The front-runners for Premier League young player of the year are Cole Palmer of Chelsea and Phil Foden of Manchester City.
The two offensive midfielders are part of a competitive field that was announced on Thursday morning, along with six additional players.
Erling Haaland, Foden's teammate at City, is trying to keep the trophy he took home the previous season along with Kobbie Mainoo of Manchester United.
Following an outstanding debut season in the Premier League, North London sensation Destiny Udogie represents Tottenham on the list alongside Arsenal's William Saliba and Bukayo Saka. Alexander Isak, a striker for Newcastle, rounds out the eight nominees.
Palmer, 22, has received recognition for an incredible first season that has seen him produce nine assists and 21 league goals since leaving City in the summer.
Palmer was voted the winner of Chelsea's two Player of the Year Awards by both teammates and supporters on Tuesday night at a ceremony held at Stamford Bridge.
Foden has also been strongly tipped to win the main player of the year award after a remarkable season which looks likely to finish with City's fourth consecutive Premier League trophy.
Saka and Saliba have been crucial to Arsenal's chances of winning the championship again, and Kobbie Mainoo has had a spectacular climb to prominence despite a difficult season at United.
Newcastle has been in the running for European football despite a slew of injuries to the team because to Isak's play.
All eight of the nominees are eligible because they began the season at the age of 23 or under.
The public vote, which concludes on May 13, will be combined with the selection of the winner by a panel of football experts.
