Ekiti University Expels 2 Students Over Bullying, Police Investigate

Police launch an investigation into allegations of bullying by two students at Ekiti University.

A viral video that showed a fellow student being bullied led to the expulsion of two female students from Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science, and Technology in Ikere Ekiti.

Adeniran Akinwale, the Commissioner of Police of Ekiti State, has opened an investigation into the event.

Temitope Akinbisoye, the university's public relations officer, claims that the video that went viral on social media showed Opemiposi Precious Bolaji, an 18-year-old student studying mass communication, physically abusing Gloria Ajayi, a fellow student, at a private hostel off campus.

The incident was condemned by Akinbisoye, who said that it went against the university's respect and dignity principles.

He declared that the impacted students would appear before the Students' Disciplinary Committee, which led to Bolaji's expulsion for her misbehavior and threats of physical violence, and Osaro's expulsion for her assistance in supplying the stick that was used in the attack.

Mistura Adejuwon and Precious Olanrewaju, who took the video and posted it on social media, received warnings and advice to report similar occurrences to the proper university authorities instead of taking it further on the internet.

Olawale Ajewole, who tried to step in and stop more damage by confining Ajayi in a room, was found not guilty.

The institution reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance for indiscipline and its dedication to making the campus a secure and welcoming place for all students.

In the meantime, the Ikere Area Commander was instructed by the Commissioner of Police to work with the university administration to find the offender and look into possible legal action.

As the investigation moves forward, he asked the public to maintain composure and refrain from acting as warriors.

This incident fuels calls for justice and a stop to bullying in schools, which is an increasing source of worry.
