Ambassadorial Appointments on Hold Due to Funding — FG
Ambassador appointments are being hampered by inadequate financing according to FG
Nigeria has not chosen ambassadors for overseas missions since the start of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's government one year ago, according to the Federal Government, in part due to a lack of sufficient financing.
Speaking at a ministerial briefing on Tuesday in Abuja to commemorate the first anniversary of President Tinubu's administration, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, the minister of foreign affairs, also revealed that the government inherited a challenging financial situation that made it challenging for many missions to obtain sufficient funding for their efficient operation.
The Minister stated that while efforts were being made to send people to those missions, there was no need to send an ambassador when there is no funding to operate such establishments.
Tuggar stated that President Tinubu's government has enabled a €250 million investment from the Netherlands to expand current company in Nigeria, while demonstrating the developments in the Ministry.
He continued by saying that it was also made possible for Indian investors to contribute $14 billion in investments in ICT, Power, Steel/Manufacturing, Agriculture, Defense, Telecom, Space Communications, Digital Solutions, Insurance, Processed Foods, Real Estate, and Hospitality.
