GOVERNOR of Kano Abba Yusuf vows to bring charges against the judge who attempted to thwart Muhammadu Sanusi's reappointment as emir.

The modified Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Bill 2024 was approved by the state house of assembly on Thursday. The governor then officially signed the bill into law.

The 2019 version, which divided the Kano emirate into five regions and was used to remove Sanusi from office as emir in 2020, was revoked by the law.

The state government was instructed not to enforce the new law by a federal high court in Kano a few hours later.

Judge Mohammed Liman has ordered the defendants to temporarily halt the implementation of the Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Law, 2024, specifically as it relates to the offices and institutions established under the Kano State Emirate Council Law, 2019, in response to a lawsuit filed by Aminu Babba Dan Agundi.

Speaking on Friday following Sanusi's restoration, the governor stated that the judge who gave the ruling originated in the United States.

Yusuf said: “This issue of abuse I must present before the governors' forum so that we can tackle it accordingly.

“We are agents of following due process, that's why we did what we did openly before everybody. Those that are meant to maintain that rule of law must follow that also.

“The person that issued the court order was in America but he is ordering us to stop what we are doing.”
