THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been urged by the Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF) and the Northern Emancipation Network (NEN) to uphold the rule of law and put an end to Yahaya Bello's public humiliation, harassment, and persecution.

In response to the EFCC's recent declaration that Yahaya Bello is wanted, the chairman of the NEN, Suleiman Abba, and the president general of the AYCF issued separate statements stating that since Bello has already been charged by the EFCC, it is necessary for it to exercise caution and let the legal process play out as it presumes the conclusion of investigations.

Shettima stated in his statement that Bello is no longer associated with the EFCC in light of the current events. The former governor, according to him, just needs to show up for court on the following postponed date or when he receives legal notice.

If EFCC actually believes in injustice, and in the judiciary and in the court system, this is not the way to handle the matter. Besides, the charge sheet was from 2015, and was amended to 2016. Three weeks when Bello came into the office, you can see that something is fishing, which no one can say exactly what is happening,” Shettima said.

The AYCF stated that it is odd that Yahaya Bello is being portrayed by the EFCC as someone who is avoiding scrutiny and prosecution, particularly in light of the paucity of hard data to back up such allegations.

Suleiman, for his part, stated that the former governor's fate need to be decided in court, where the merits of each side's argument and the evidence that is offered would be used to establish whether the governor is guilty or innocent.

He urged the EFCC to uphold the law and hold off on pursuing any more action against Yahaya Bello until after the Court of Appeal renders its decision.

Maintaining the integrity of our legal system and making sure that everyone is treated with respect and dignity depend on upholding the concepts of justice and fairness.

“We urge the EFCC to exercise restraint and adhere to the legal process in dealing with the case of Yahaya Bello. It is imperative that we uphold the rule of law and protect the rights of all individuals, regardless of their status or position. Let us work together to ensure that justice is served and that our democracy remains strong and resilient.”

Recall that Bello was put on a watchlist after his home was broken into and he was subsequently declared wanted.
