President Tinubu Should Sack Underperforming Minister — El-Rufai Demands
NASIR El-rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, recently gave President Bola Tinubu advice on how to handle appointments.
Nasir El-Rufai asked Tinubu to think about changing ministries and individuals who have not fulfilled their mandates, stressing the significance of holding officials responsible for their actions.
He said the president need to have the humility to admit when an appointee doesn't live up to expectations and make the necessary adjustments.
He said, “You appointed a person into a position and he is not working according to the expectation, you should have the humility to tell him that I need a better person, go and do something else.”
The former governor's comments are framed by his own experience, having been rejected during Senate screening for a ministerial position in President Tinubu's cabinet last year because of security concerns mentioned in media reports.
El-Rufai underlined the necessity for people to pray and support their leaders in spite of the difficulties they encounter, as he believes that humility and divine guidance are crucial for wise decision-making and advancing society.
He said, “What we must do as citizens is to pray for our leaders for God to guide them to see or do what is right. For God to give them the humility to reverse themselves when necessary and do the right thing; that's how society progresses.”
El-Rufai's counsel to President Tinubu, however, emphasizes the role that prayer and public support play in influencing leaders to take constructive action, as well as the need of leadership responsibility and the necessity of efficient government to accomplish desired outcomes.
