Pedro Sanchez, PM Of Spain, Will Remain In Office

Pedro Sánchez, the prime minister of Spain, has refused to step down in the face of accusations made against his wife.

Pedro Sánchez, the prime minister of Spain, said that he will remain in his position after five days of speculation over his future.

Following the opening of an initial investigation into his wife's alleged wrongdoing by a court, Sánchez declared last week that he was canceling all of his official commitments.

He described the claims as part of a right-wing media-led harassment campaign.

Sánchez has ruled the country since 2018.

Even members of his own Socialist Party (PSOE) were taken aback by his decision last week to take a break from his responsibilities in order to consider whether it was worthwhile to continue serving as prime minister.

The accusations directed towards Begoña Gómez, Sánchez's partner, came from Manos Limpias (Clean Hands), an organization headed by Miguel Bernad, a man associated with the far-right.

The public prosecutor in Madrid demanded on Thursday that the investigation be put on hold due to a lack of evidence. Given that the accusations were based on online newspaper pieces, one of which has already been shown to be untrue, Manos Limpias also admitted that they might not be accurate.
