Over 40 Ogun Communities, Plunged Into Darkness By Rainstorm

A downpour in Ogun State's Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area on Sunday wrecked millions of naira's worth of electrical poles and lines.

Since the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) cannot restore the broken poles and cables, over forty communities in the council area are without electricity as a result of this occurrence.

The popular Oju Ore to Toll Gate on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway was blocked in traffic as a result of the development.

According to reports, the two-hour-long downpour in certain regions of the state also destroyed buildings and other properties in addition to the poles and cables that were damaged.

In a public statement, the IBED stated: “Customers in the following communities: lyana lyesi, Osuke Town, Egan Road, lyana Ilogbo, Ijaba, Ijagba, Itele, Lafenwa, Singer, Joju, Alishiba, Oju Ore, Tollgate, Eledi, Akeja, Abebi, Osi Round About, Ota Town, Ota Industrial Estate, Igberen, lju, Atan, Onipanu, Obasanjo, Lusada, Arigba, Odugbe, Ado- Odo, Igbesa, Owode. ”

There are power outages in the following areas: “Olokuta, Hanushi, Bamtish Camp Lufiwape, Eltees Farm, August Engineering, Spark Cear Soap Ayetoro, Amazing Grace Oil, Christopher University, Royal Garden Estate, Pentagon Estate, and surrounding areas.”

As its technical team worked to remove and repair the broken poles and cables, the IBEDC issued a statement warning residents to stay away from the damaged structures.

“Kindly avoid contact with the broken poles, saggy wires or any other electrical installation affected by the rain. Report any incident and do not attempt to repair or tamper with electrical installations.

“Our technical team is working to clear and replace the broken poles and installations to ensure power supply is restored as soon as possible.

“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience,” the IBEDC stated.

A lengthy school bus, cars, trucks, and tricycles were among the vehicles that the utility poles fell on in a widely shared video of the incident.
