NSCDC Rescues 10 People, Foils Trafficking Attempt

IN the Federal Capital Territory, ten people who were allegedly being trafficked and prepped for migration overseas were apprehended by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

10 people were detained by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the Federal Capital Territory on suspicion of being victims of human trafficking who were preparing to immigrate overseas.

On the basis of a tip, NSCDC agents apprehended the group at the Zuba Motor Park in Abuja when they were returning from Minna, Niger State, where they were allegedly supposed to have gone to process their passports at the sponsor's request.

9 women and 1 man, all claiming to be from Ondo State, were among the victims, who ranged in age from 24 to 34.

According to a statement issued by Samuel Idoko, the command's spokesperson, each of them had spent N80,000 to obtain their passports.

Migration overseas for ready-made jobs was promised to the suspects.

An unidentified sponsor living in Ondo promised the suspects migration abroad for ready-made positions, especially in North Africa and Canada.

The text of the statement said,
“It was gathered that each of them paid N80,000 to facilitate the procurement of the international passport.

“They also confessed to being promised migration abroad to undertake ready- made jobs, especially in North Africa and Canada by a yet-to-be-identified sponsor who, according to them, resides in Okitipupa, Ondo State.”

Olusola Odumosu, the FCT Commandant, issued a warning about the dangers of traveling overseas illegally.

Odumosu highlighted the danger of exploitation and servitude and urged people to be skeptical of promises of a brighter future.

The victims were given to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) so that they may be the subject of additional research and the proper judicial proceedings.

The NSCDC asked the public to report any suspicious activity connected to illegal immigration or human trafficking, and it reiterated its commitment to fighting these crimes.

The agency has, however, expressed dismay at the startlingly high rate of unauthorized movement among Nigerians.

The agency's spokesperson, Zacks Dauda, lamented the fact that Nigerians were still traveling abroad despite the agency's attempts to raise awareness about irregular migration.
