National Grid Collapses For The Umpteenth Time
Nigerians are plunged into darkness for the nth time as the national grid fails.
Data from the Nigerian System Operator's portal (niggrid.org) between 2:00 am and the time this report was filed shows that Nigeria's electricity grid collapsed for the hundredth time in the early hours of Monday, April 15, 2024.
At 7:10 a.m. on that same day, the grid recorded an unprecedented zero Megawatts (MW) and is currently producing a pitiful 52.3 MW.
Electricity distribution firms (DisCos) had to deal with the unexpected and protracted outage, which had a widespread impact.
The grid hasn't fully recovered, leaving several areas of the nation in complete darkness for more than five hours.
Nigeria's major banks lead the way in seeking out fresh funding Net coverage in Nigeria is slowed by a $461 million investment deficit. DisCos post fifty apologies despite ongoing poor service.
This catastrophe adds to the problems that have long beset Nigeria's electricity industry. It is the fifth grid disruption of 2024.
This most recent episode stands out as the most serious in a year already filled with interruptions, adding to the ongoing challenges faced by industry stakeholders and consumers.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and the DisCos have failed to release a formal statement about the origin and resolution of the crisis, despite the blackout's extensive effects.
The TCN had not yet provided confirmation of the incident at the time this report was submitted, thus stakeholders and the general public were unaware of the cause and resolution of the most recent issue.
