JAMB Discovered 1,665 Bogus A-Level Results During Direct Entry Enrollment
OVER 1,665 fake A-level results were found, according to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), during the 2023 Direct Entry (DE) enrollment process.
This was disclosed by JAMB Registrar Professor Is-haq Oloyede in an Abuja meeting with the National Association of Nigeria Colleges of Education Students (NANCES) leadership.
According to him, 397 of the detected bogus results came from education colleges, 453 from university degrees, and the other ones were from various A-level certificates.
He acknowledged the need to preserve the integrity of the A'level certificates that are needed for admission, even as he voiced concern over the lack of regard for certificates.
In the past, JAMB relied on granting institutions to vet DE applicants and do background checks. At Bayero University in Kano, disparities were revealed nonetheless, as just six of the 148 credentials that were sent in were confirmed to be authentic.
Stakeholders suggested a number of solutions to address these issues, such as creating a task force to verify A-level results and establishing a uniform platform for certificate verification.
Oloyede assured that the platform will enable verification in five minutes and be effective and user-friendly.
A “No verification, No admission” policy was also implemented by JAMB, which also named 15 universities that had not properly cooperated with requests for verification.
These institutions had to pre-verify applications before completing their DE registration because they had more than 20 unconfirmed candidates.
Oloyede emphasized that prior to completing DE registrations, the 15 non-compliant institutions need to pre-verify the holders of their certificates.
