‘I'm A Man’ — Bobrisky Declares In Court
THE social media personality Bobrisky revealed her gender on Friday in court while she was being tried for alleged naira abuse.
The federal high court judge, Abimbola Awogboro, condemned the transvestite to six months in prison.
Awogboro also declared in her decision that there is no chance of a fine with this sentencing.
She decided that the day of her arrest, March 24, would mark the start of her jail sentence.
The judge declared that the decision would discourage others who enjoy misusing and disfiguring Nigerian cash.
Bobrisky promptly responded that she “was a man” when the court queried her gender prior to the sentence.
When the judge asked Bobrisky, “Are you a man or a woman?” he said, “I am a man.”
On April 4, the social media personality was taken into custody in Lagos for vandalizing the naira notes.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) last Friday arraigned the crossdresser on a six-count allegation.
The remaining two counts pertain to alleged money laundering, while the other four allegations deal with naira abuse.
The self-described transgender person, however, entered a guilty plea to the first four charges, which involved misuse of funds.
Bobrisky has consistently made headlines for contentious reasons.
As per the EFCC's legal representative's request, the presiding judge excluded counts five and six.
She has consistently advised people to cease calling her a man. She also declared herself to be the first transgender person in Nigeria and once acknowledged removing her genitalia.
In 2020, Bobrisky disclosed that she had chosen to become a transvestite in order to make ends meet following 25 years as a guy.
The social media star also discussed some of the benefits of being a “woman” in September 2021.
