Gov. Of Kaduna Denies Obtaining A New Loan Of $17.69 Million
THE Ministry of Finance of the Government of Kaduna State has declined to acquire a new loan of $17.69 million as mentioned by Debt Management Office (DMO).
This was announced on Thursday, April 4, by the state's commissioner of finance, Shizzer Bada, saying, “We did not borrow the said amount or any other amount as reported. The claims are entirely false and fabricated.
“There must be clarity for borrowing and it is crucial to understand that; borrowing activities by sub-national entities in Nigeria are strictly governed by a framework comprising the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
She maintains that Uba Sani, the governor of Kaduna State, did not sign any contracts or obtain any foreign loans as stated.
Bada warned people not to believe the report and to avoid being mislead.
Governor Uba recently lamented the massive debt he inherited from his predecessor, Nasir El-Rufai, at a town hall gathering.
The governor claims that the previous governor left his administration with a total of $587 million, N85 billion, and 115 contract liabilities.

He claimed that the state's March N10 billion federal allocation was used for debt service only to the tune of N7 billion.
Uba went on to say that the state only had N3 billion left over, which he claimed was insufficient to cover salaries given that the state's monthly wage bill is N5.2 billion.
