EFCC Declares Former Governor Yahaya Bello Wanted Over Alleged Fraud
Yahaya Bello is sought by the EFCC for “financial crime” worth N80 billion
The former Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello, has been listed as wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for suspected financial crimes totaling N80 billion.
Bello's whereabouts remain unknown, and anyone with valuable information is asked to get in touch with the anti-graft commission or the closest police station.
Statement reads: “The public is hereby notified that YAHAYA ADOZA BELLO (former Governor of Kogi State), whose photograph appears above is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in connection with alleged case of Money Laundering to the tune of N80,246,470,089.88 (Eighty Billion, Two Hundred and Forty Six Million, Four Hundred and Seventy Thousand and Eighty Nine Naira, Eighty Eight Kobo).
“Bello, 48-year old Ebiraman, is a native of Okenne Local Government of Kogi State. His last known address is: 9, Benghazi Street, Wuse Zone 4, Abuja
“Anybody with useful information as to his whereabouts should please contact the Commission in its Ibadan, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Gombe, Port Harcourt and Abuja offices.”
Bello's home in Abuja was blocked on Wednesday by a few EFCC agents.
It is stated that Kogi Governor Usman Ododo left with the former governor in his car after spending a few hours at Bello's house.
The lawyer for Bello, Abdulwahab Muhammed, asserted that his client was in his state when the EFCC agents stormed his home.
The EFCC arraigned Bello earlier today, but he wasn't present in court.
His arraignment followed the court's Wednesday issuance of an arrest warrant and enrollment order for the EFCC.
The EFCC said in a statement on Wednesday that, “it is necessary to state that Bello is not above the law and would be brought to justice as soon as possible.”
The lawsuit against Bello, Alli Bello, the chief of staff to Kogi Governor Usman Ododo, and one Daudu Suleiman, was postponed until April 23 by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
