EFCC Attacks Beta Edu And Others Over Fraud
The EFCC attacks Beta Edu and others, saying, “You are part of the N32.7bn, $445k recovery.”
Significant progress has been made in the continuing investigation against the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which revealed that it has recovered $445,000 and N3 billion between March and April.
This recovery is in addition to the N30 billion that was previously retrieved, as noted on Sunday, April 14 by EFCC Chairman Olu Olukoyede.
Updates were given by EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale, who said, “The EFCC has recovered an additional N2.7 billion and $445,000 in connection with the probe between mid-March and now.”
President Bola Tinubu launched the probe after Dr. Beta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, was suspended.
This probe also involves Halima Shehu, Coordinator of the National Social Insurance Programs Agency, and Sadiya Umar-Farouq, a former minister.
According to Oyewale, “No officials from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs have been cleared in ongoing investigations into financial misappropriation.”

He further disclosed stating that, “The EFCC has recovered a total of N32.7 billion and $445,000 in the ongoing probe, uncovering fraudulent activities related to COVID-19 funds, World Bank loans, and Abacha loot.”
“Public support in reporting naira abuse and dollarization of the economy is appreciated, with increased awareness of the issue,” he stated in reference to the fight against currency abuse.
“Several celebrities are under investigation for naira abuse, with some providing statements and more likely to be invited for questioning.”
He did, however, point out that the EFCC is prepared to demonstrate its unshakable dedication to bringing criminal charges against anyone engaged in currency misuse and issued a warning against breaking applicable laws, upholding its enforcement strategy of having no sacred cows.
