19 people Died In Oyo-Ogbomoso Car Tragedy


ACCORDING to the Federal route Safety Corps (FRSC), a car accident on Sunday on the Oyo-Ogbomoso route claimed the lives of 19 people.


The corps' public education officer, Jonas Agwu, stated in a statement that the 19 bodies had been placed in the morgue of the Oyo General Hospital.


A motorist who drove against traffic is suspected of causing the deadly collision, which involved a head-on collision between a Toyota Hiace bus registered as NTT52ZY and a Toyota Corolla salon car.


He said the collision happened at around 7:45 a.m.


“Of this number, 19 persons were killed, while the only surviving victim was rescued by FRSC operatives with injuries,” the statement reads.


“FRSC rescue team that conducted the rescue operations have taken the injured victim to Opabode hospital in Oyo, for emergency medical attention.


“The dead bodies have been deposited at Oyo General Hospital morgue.”


Agwu further stated that sector commanders have been instructed by FRSC Corps Marshal Dauda Ali Biu to intensify patrol activities in order to combat the problem of route violations on the country's highways.
