THE Labour Party's (LP) presidential candidate for 2023, Peter Obi, has pushed the federal government to form a professional technical task team to address the recurring national grid meltdown.

Obi spoke on Wednesday in Onitsha, Anambra, in a statement that was signed by his spokesperson, Yunusa Tanko.

Amidst constant allegations of a national grid meltdown, the former governor of Anambra addressed.

The third nationwide blackout of 2024 occurred on April 15, as a result of yet another system failure in the country's electrical infrastructure.

In response, Peter Obi recommended that the federal government quickly form a technical task group made up of actual professionals who would not be influenced by politics in order to diagnose the sector's crisis.

Obi said, “They will get to work to correct such simple slippage like incessant fire outbreaks that lead to perennial system collapse, drastically improve coordination and coherence between Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and distribution companies (DisCos).

“There will be no load rejection, and breath down on all operators to deliver on their technical responsibilities.

“This will rapidly improve power availability in the short term while the government develop clarity to articulate an integrated national electricity policy and a practical implementation roadmap that harmonises national and sub- national electricity reform.”

TCN, meanwhile, said that the national grid had been entirely restored.
