APC Governoral Candidate Okpebholo Highlights Edo Central Off-Road Project

THE All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, launched the construction of a 6-kilometer Onewa-Uwessan Road in Edo State's Edo Central Senatorial District this past weekend with much fanfare and excitement.

The road joins six communities and is anticipated to facilitate economic activity once it is finished, connecting the local government units of Esan North-East and Esan Central in Edo Central.

Assuring the locals that it will be finished in record time, “We want to assure you that this road will be completed within four months,” Okpebholo stated. “We would have finished this road before the elections and the real rains arrived.”

He noted, “With this road constructed, kidnapping on the route will drastically reduce. Our people will be able to harvest their products and take them to the market to sell and make a profit for themselves. No more wastage.”

An elder of one of the communities, Mr. Solomon Okunbor, expressed gratitude to the incumbent Edo Central Senator, who is now the APC's candidate for governor of the state, for his thoughtfulness and memory of the community. He said that the road was impassable prior to this, making it nearly impossible to interact with people from nearby communities.

Mr Okunbor said, “I want to thank you so much for coming to our aid. When he came and said he will tar our road, we didn't take him serious because we have been hearing similar promises since 1999 with nothing to show for it. But now, we can see that truly to his word, work has commenced just as he said. Thank you so much. We have never had it this good.”

Speaking as well, Mr. Benson Idiagbonya, a resident of one of the impacted areas, stated that the people will always be appreciative to Senator Monday Okphebholo for bringing the government to their area for the first time since democracy was restored in 1999. He pleaded with the APC candidate for governor to see to it that the road is finished just as he had promised.

Five communities—Idumoza, Udomi, Ibhiolulu, Ujabhole, Audra, and Unogbo—are connected by the Onewa-Uwessan road, a strategically important route that runs between the local government districts of Esan North and Esan Central in Edo Central.
