African Counter-Terrorism Summit Commences With President Tinubu

NIGERIA and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) have partnered to host the African Counter-Terrorism Summit, which was officially opened by President Bola Tinubu at the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) in Abuja.

The goal of the summit, which is set for April 22–23, is to emphasize African-led solutions while reshaping international responses to terrorism within Africa and bolstering multilateral counterterrorism operations.

The Special Advisor to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, said in a statement released on Sunday, April 21, that the summit's goal is to strengthen global collaboration in the fight against terrorism on the African continent.

Heads of state and government, high-ranking officials from Africa, diplomats, members of international organizations and multilateral institutions, and civil society organizations were all present at the event.

Among the notable guests are Patrice Talon, President of the Republic of Benin; Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Nigeria's National Security Adviser; Vladimir Voronkov, Under-Secretary-General of the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism; and Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the UN.

A thorough analysis of the danger landscape posed by terrorism will be part of the summit agenda, with the goal of determining strategic goals and concrete steps to effectively battle this ubiquitous scourge.

The meeting will also encourage closer cooperation, strengthening the institutional capacities of member nations and enabling the sharing of knowledge and best practices to combat terrorism globally.
