Trump Has Racked Up Even More Victories
Though most of the attention was focused on the first early-state contests, there were actually more over the last few days as the calendar accelerated towards Super Tuesday.
Given the amount of focus on South Carolina, New Hampshire, and Iowa, it's possible that you haven't been following the contests lately. In just the last week, Trump won 167 delegates throughout four states.
He received 68 percent of the vote in Michigan's primary last Tuesday. Saturday's Michigan Republican convention included a primary as well as a convention where the outgoing president won the remaining delegates from the state.
Moreover, Trump won the Saturday caucuses in Missouri and Idaho, where he had lost to Ted Cruz in 2016. In North Dakota's caucuses on Monday, he delivered yet another outstanding performance to close out the pre-Super Tuesday sprint.
A bright spot for the former U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley came over the weekend when she won the GOP primary in Washington, D.C. That followed her first two senatorial endorsements from Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, two states hosting today's presidential primaries.
Of course, Trump's team was quick to characterize the victory in D.C. as coming from the “swamp.”
The Super Tuesday Republican primaries and caucuses see Donald Trump win 12 of the 15 states, securing 983 delegates—out of the 1,215 required to win the nomination.
