Customs To Auction Seized Food Items
The Nigeria Customs Service will auction off confiscated food, to combat hunger
The Nigeria Customs Service has revealed that it intends to auction food items that have been seized as part of continuous efforts to combat hunger and guarantee that necessities are available throughout the nation.
Adewale Adeniyi, the Comptroller General of the Service, made the announcement during a sectoral debate series in the House of Representatives. He also highlighted the critical steps being taken to lessen food scarcity.
According to Comptroller General Adeniyi, President Bola Tinubu has ordered the Customs Service to sell food items made locally that are seized at Nigerian land borders directly to citizens who are in need.
He said the project aims to combat hunger and increase food availability, especially for the underprivileged.
He explained, “Mr. President has directed that we sell directly to needy Nigerians food items produced locally but which were seized.
“This is one of the ways to address hunger and food scarcity we are facing. We have started this in Lagos.”
