Threat To Multichoice's Monopoly As FG Launches Its Own Pay TV Network

A new native satellite pay television network called SLTV was launched on Thursday in Abuja by Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

Akume also mentioned how Nigerians had been clamoring for a paid satellite television service to replace the ones that were currently available.

He states that SLTV reacts quite loudly and clearly.

Akume stated that the new pay SLTV would provide Nigerians with value for their money based on information provided to him, as stated by his Senior Special Adviser, Technical, Prof. Babatunde Bolaji.

He said: “It is glaring that Metrodigital recognises the fact that the Federal Government has demonstrated an unwavering commitment through robust policies and legal framework to promote free competition and responsive broadcasting services in Nigeria.”

Nwafor declared that they would leverage the newest technologies to bring in numerous innovations and concentrate on providing high-quality services at a reasonable cost.

He said that they had waited until now to provide Nigerians with a wide range of entertainment options at extremely affordable prices.

“The total package is up to 55 channels including sports, news for only 5,000 naira a month,” Nwafor said.

He applauded the federal government for making a concerted effort to amend the National Broadcasting Commission's (NBC) code and certain legal provisions, which allowed for alternative competition and helped SLTV to arise.
