Rivers PDP Leaders Sekibo, Secondus, And Others Agree To Support Tinubu
THE former Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Council has vowed to help President Bola Tinubu's administration in its endeavors to better the lot of all Nigerians.
The members are: Celestine Omehia, a previous candidate for governor; Tele Ikuru, a former deputy governor; Austin Opara, a former deputy speaker; and Prince Uche Secondus, a former PDP national chairman and minister of transportation.
Speaking to reporters yesterday on behalf of the council in Port Harcourt, former minister of transportation Sekibo stated that even though they supported PDP presidential candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar during the previous general election, they still adhere to the Supreme Court's ruling that declared Tinubu the victor of the presidential race.
However, he declared that the state's populace will not consent to Governor Siminalayi Fubara's removal through any unlawful or unconstitutional means.
Sekibo said “We have just risen from the meeting of the leadership of the former Rivers State PDP Presidential Campaign Council and members of the PDP in Rivers State, who stood by the party after the national convention of the party produced our presidential candidate, His Excellency, Atiku Abubakar.
“The elections are since over and the Supreme has ruled on the finality of the contest, pronounced His Excellency, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as duly elected President of Nigeria. We stand by that verdict. As law abiding citizens and responsible leaders of our party in Rivers State, we recognise the elected President of our country and pledge our full support for the success of his administration for the benefit of all Nigerians.
“In effect, we subscribe to the President's effort at strengthening our economy, fighting insecurity and promoting peace and harmony in our dear country, Nigeria. In the same vain, His Excellency, Amaopusenibo Sir Siminalayi Fubara was elected democratically as governor of Rivers State and also affirmed by the Supreme Court
“As indigenes and critical stakeholders of Rivers State, we give our dear governor, our total loyalty and support for the progress of our state and through him, support the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as we believe that working together, the good and interest of Rivers State will be protected.”
The president was informed by him, however, that the great majority of Rivers people firmly support “our governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara” and that they will not permit any form of “illegal and unconstitutional Assembly” to impeach, interfere with the state's smooth governance, or disturb the public without permission.
