National Grid Collapses The Umpteenth Time In A Year
Nigeria experienced its countlessth night of complete darkness, following the breakdown of the electrical infrastructure.
Following the failure of the electrical grid managed from Osogbo, Osun State, Nigeria was plunged into darkness for the umpteenth time on Thursday afternoon.
There was a shortage of feeders for most DisCos across the country, according to a source in one of the distribution businesses.
The insider went on to say that the development has essentially put all 36 states' DisCo franchise territories in the dark.
The source stated that at 4 p.m., the grid's output was 2984 megawatts. However, the 21 plants on the grid produced nothing by 5 p.m.
The sole plant on the grid, according to reports, with an output capacity of roughly 54 megawatts is Azura.
Among the plants with zero output were Egbin, Afam, Geregu, Ibom Power, Jebba, I, Odukpani, and Olorunsogo.
The federal government kept ownership of the transmission firm even after selling off all eleven distribution and generation companies in November 2013. This was done to increase industry efficiency.
However, there have been over 140 grid collapses since privatization.
February saw the country plunge into darkness due to a grid collapse.
