Mohbad’s Death: Legal Firm Refutes Claims It Tested The Late Singer's Son's DNA

Late Ilerioluwa ‘Mohbad’ Aloba

Following Mohbad's passing on September 12, 2023, his family has been involved in a number of scandals.

These include claims against Mohad's widow, Liam's paternity, and unclaimed royalties and assets.

The singer's father, who has never disguised his skepticism over Mohbad's son's paternity, refuted reports in February that he insisted Mohbad's son take a DNA test, saying instead that his son's widow made the suggestion.

Salawu, Akingbolu & Co., the late musician Ilerioluwa Aloba's widow, also known as Mohbad, has refuted rumors that the legal firm tested Liam, the singer's 11-month-old son, for DNA.

The law company denied a widely circulated rumor that it colluded with Latona Hospital and then Lagoon Hospital in Lagos to test Liam's DNA in a disclaimer released on Wednesday and signed by Kabir Akingbolu.

According to the report, on February 21, Wunmi put N480,000 into the Zenith Bank account of Lagoon Hospital and took Liam for a covert DNA test. Furthermore, the outcome of the DNA test came back negative.

“For the record, we state and maintain that we are professional litigation lawyers of repute, and our integrity in that light has never been in doubt since the inception of our Law Firm, for we are lawyers who believe strongly in ethics and professionalism.”

It continued, “Our track records in defending the masses and fighting poor government policies and corruption are testimonials to what we do, although Mrs Wunmi Aloba, the wife to the late Singer Aloba Ilerioluwa Promise (Mohbad), recently briefed our law firm and our service was retained to represent her in her cases, and we have been doing our job strictly as lawyers.”

The law firm, who is not a medical practitioner, expressed astonishment at the blogger's baseless accusation that they participated in DNA testing.

They stated that the claim is false and encouraged the public to ignore the unsupported publication.

The company stated that the claim is simply “a fabrication of a self-serving, unemployed attention-seeker and overseas fugitive who aims to make money by tarnishing the reputations of individuals with integrity to attract followers on the internet.”

“We have never, at any point in time, carried out any (DNA) test for Mrs Wunmi Aloba nor any person whatsoever because we are not running a hospital but a law firm.

“We hereby urge the general public to discountenance and jettison the spurious, unfounded, baseless, and puerile allegation by Bukky Jesse, who has been dishing out falsehood and contradictory information to the general public under the pretence of seeking justice for the death of late Aloba Ilerioluwa Promise (Mohbad),” the statement added.

The legal firm made it clear that Mohbad alone was entitled by the Constitution to contest Liam's paternity, which he never questioned while he was alive. According to the legal firm, Mohbad bought one plot of land under Liam's name and owned two others.

Even though Mohbad passed away 191 days ago, the coroner's inquest is still proceeding, which is delaying the autopsy results and the reburial that will follow.

Mohbad's father, Joseph Aloba, has insisted on waiting to bury his son until the autopsy results are known.

According to a prior report from Mohbad's management, the authorities were holding off on releasing the autopsy results because they were being transported overseas.

The elder Aloba recently issued his daughter-in-law with a challenge to reveal all of her knowledge regarding the late singer's passing.

He charged her with using emotional coercion and trying to win over the public with her pleas.

He also pressured her to make the information public and accused her of fabricating the facts behind Mohbad's death.

However, she stated that “bullies have prevented her from speaking out”despite having important information on Mohbad's passing, according to a string of Instagram posts.

She expressed her sense of helplessness as a result of unknown industry leaders interfering.
