GAFAR Liameed was elected as the new state FA chairman after the board members of the Lagos State Football Association impeached their chairman, Fouad Oki, during the organization's General Assembly on Saturday.

However, Oki countered by telling Newsmen that he will continue to lead the troubled association.

Following claims of maladministration, highhandedness, corruption, and fraudulent practices, Oki was voted out of office by 12 of the 14 members of Congress. The board then issued a vote of no confidence in him.

He was accused of violating international football best practices by bringing football-related cases from Lagos State to the Lagos High Court.

The Nigeria Football Federation's first vice president, Felix Anyansi-Agwu, chairman of associations Mallam Sani Ali, former international player and Lagos FA boss, Waidi Akanni, and Adeyinka Adeboye, special assistant to the minister of sports development, were present at the general assembly.

The illegal withdrawal of more than N40 million from the FA accounts is one of the charges made against Oki.

Following the proper procedures, the congress voted Gafar into office as the state FA's new chairman and declared Oki impeached.

Gafar defined his new role in his acceptance speech as a call to serve.

“This is a huge task, but I want to assure you all that together we'll bring back the glorious days of football in Lagos State, Gafar said.

“It won't be business as usual, but football business as normal. Together, we'll work to ensure that Lagos State is not left behind in football matters.”

MON DIARIES had reported in October 2023 that the Lagos FA board had suspended Oki for gross misconduct by a simple majority of five to four.

Oki maintained that he was still in charge of the state football organization and denied ever having unlawfully withdrawn more than N40 million, as claimed by the board members.
