ISIS Attack: Death Toll Hits 115, Concert Hall Shooting In Moscow
President Vladimir Putin |
The death toll rises to 115 as the Russian government detains 11 people in connection with the Moscow concert hall massacre.
115 people were killed in the incident that happened on Friday night, March 22, and the Islamic State, or ISIS, has taken credit for it.
As of the time of this report, neither Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, nor the government had responded to the Islamic State's claim of responsibility for the attack.
A potential link to Ukraine has been mentioned by a few Russian legislators.
Remember that the deadliest incident in Russia in at least ten years occurred when armed individuals dressed in disguise opened fire at the crowded Crocus City Hall in the northern neighborhood of Krasnogorsk, Moscow, before to a performance by the rock band Piknik from the Soviet era.
According to the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), a few of the attackers have absconded to the border between Russia and Ukraine, and they have contacts there.
Leading Russian MP Andrey Kartapolov stated, “We can't rule it out—the main interested party could most likely be Ukraine and its patrons.”
However, according to an assistant to Ukrainian President Mykhailo Podolyak, Ukraine was unrelated to the attack. Ukraine has been experiencing a military offensive from Russia for the past two years.
The Russian government stated that President Vladimir Putin had been notified about the arrests by the director of the FSB security service, but officials issued a warning that the death toll would likely continue to rise, with over 100 people still in hospitals and the burned-out site still being searched.
“FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov reported to the president on the detention of 11 people, including four terrorists involved in the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall,” it said.
Putin himself has not made any public remarks or been seen in public in the more than 12 hours since the attack.
A representative of the Russian government expressed that he had wished the victims a swift recovery and that he was kept regularly informed.
