International Women's Day: Nigerian Women Are Special Breed — Akpabio
| Senate President, Godswill Akpabio |
As he congratulates women on the 2024 International Day of Women, Senate President Godswill Akpabio says that women should be treated with the utmost respect.
In a statement released on this day, Senator Akpabio, via his Special Advisor on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, compliments Nigerian women, identifying them as a unique breed and a complete package.
Akpabio praised the tenacious nature of Nigerian women, acknowledging their everyday challenges and characterizing them as resilient, hardworking, and unflinching.
The theme of this year's celebration, ‘Invest in Women, Accelerate Progress,’ he said, was appropriate because, as is widely acknowledged, “Train a woman, and you train a nation.” No nation can succeed without investing in women.
Under his chairmanship, the Senate President promised that the National Assembly would keep pushing for better women's welfare, saying, “We are very conscious that failure to invest in women is akin to killing development and destroying a nation.”
He stated that the 2024 International Women's Day (IWD) campaign theme, “Inspire inclusion,” aligned with the views of the 10th Senate, which is diligently striving to pass legislation that would support women's rights, prevent sexual exploitation, and increase the enrollment of girls in school.
“I wish to use the occasion of this year's International Women's Day to proudly celebrate our women-mothers and sisters. On behalf of my family, constituents, the Senate, and the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I sincerely wish our women a peaceful and fruitful celebration.
“I must say you are the best, and I sincerely appreciate you.”
