Anthony Joshua Knocks Out Francis Ngannou
Anthony Joshua, a British-Nigerian professional boxer, defeats Francis Ngannou, the former UFC champion.
In a thrilling victory, Anthony Joshua defeated Francis Ngannou in the second round of their heavyweight fight on Friday in Saudi Arabia.
The British celebrity Joshua dropped Ngannou once in the opening frame, once more in the ensuing round, and at 2:38 of the latter round, Joshua delivered the knockout blow.
Joshua is now set up for a potential fight for the heavyweight championship and the Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk winner.
Joshua used a clean right hand to defeat former UFC champion Ngannou in the first round, and he repeated the feat in the second. Following the second knockdown, Ngannou outwitted the referee's count, but Joshua's next punch—another right cross—knocked the Cameroonian out cold.
Ngannou was knocked out cold by a powerful right hand knockout blow. According to the DAZN broadcast, Ngannou, the former UFC champion, was on the ground for over a minute and was given oxygen.
Ngannou, who defeated Tyson Fury in his professional debut in October and looked good in a split-decision loss, suffered a stunning setback. However, on Friday, the two-time world champion Joshua took the lead right away.
With the victory, ‘AJ’ became the first fighter under coach Ben Davison—a former Tyson Fury trainer—to win consecutive fights. In December, Joshua, 34, defeated Otto Wallin in five rounds under Davison's tutelage. Known as “Knockout Chaos,” Friday's fight night was Turki Al-Sheikh's most recent Saudi Arabian event.
Following his two consecutive defeats by Oleksandr Usyk, Anthony Joshua has now won four straight fights. Three of those victories have come through knockouts in the past.
