Club Coach Applauds 24-Year-Old For Becoming Better Player After AFCON
Calvin Bassey's fortune has changed since he returned from the Africa Cup of Nations, where he represented Nigeria, and Fulham's coach, Marco Silva, has praised the move.
Calvin Bassey was always there for Nigeria during their run to the tournament final, where they lost the trophy after letting a one-goal lead slip to the host Cote d'Ivoire 1-2.
The 24-year-old has been unstoppable since returning to Fulham, looking the part for a team that has won their last two games convincingly against Manchester United and Brighton, respectively.
He left Ajax a year after joining the team from Scottish side Rangers due to a tumultuous period marked by criticism.
The former Leicester City youth team player, who was signed by Dutch powerhouse Ajax in the summer, has improved, Silva said in remarks made ahead of this weekend's matchup against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
“He has really grown into what we expected when he was signed and he is still improving in certain areas. The experience of playing in a senior international tournament has also worked for his development, the level he is playing now is down to playing at a tournament,” the coach said.
