Adopt New Approach Against Kidnappers, Terrorists — FG Charges Police

Nigeria in recent times has recorded unprecedented security challenges

The Federal Government has ordered the Nigerian Police Force to step up its game as the country struggles with security issues.

The government wants the police to find the enemy's hiding places, interfere with their operations, and destroy their networks in order to bring the conflict right to their doorstep.

The current administration specifically wants the police to adopt a new strategy against terrorists, kidnappers, bandits, and other criminals that wreak havoc across the nation. The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, leads this effort.

The Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Gaidam, gave the charge on Friday to men of the Nigerian Police during his visit to the Force Headquarters in Abuja, the nation's capital.

The Minister of State for Police Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, accompanied the minister in asserting that no longer should any adversary of national peace be allowed to launch an initial attack.

“In our fight against these enemies of peace, we must embrace a new strategy, a strategy of aggression. We must no longer wait for the enemy to strike. We must take the fight to their very doorstep,” he said.

“We must seat out their hideouts and stop their operations and dismantle their networks. Being on the defensive has only emboldened our enemies and allowed them to be stronger. It is time for us to change the narrative to shape the balance of power in our table.”

Speaking, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, Minister of State for Police Affairs, requests that the police chief make sure the safe school environment policy is implemented in a way that is efficient.

“We are working day and night with the speed of light to ensure that they get what is due to them so that they can be able to do more for the country," she said.

“Once we get policing right, then we have solved over 50 per cent of the problems in this country.”

The War Against Insurgency Will Be Won

The IGP, for his part, expressed hope that the war against insurgency and other illegal activities in the nation will be victorious.

Additionally, he promised that the ministry would continue to work with the police, led by him, to carry out its primary purpose.
