Abdullahi Bello Becomes The Chairman Of Tinubu's Code Of Conduct Bureau
President Bola Tinubu |
Dr. Abdullahi Bello has been appointed as the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) by President Bola Tinubu, subject to Senate confirmation.
Bello is President Muhammadu Buhari's appointee, replacing Professor Isah Mohammed, who was appointed in November 2018.
President Tinubu has appointed a new Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau, according to a statement issued on Thursday, March 28 by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Advisor to the President on Media and Publicity.
Ngelale characterized Bello as an exemplary professional in the statement, citing her over 25 years of expertise in banking, law enforcement, financial services, consulting, and academics.
When the Constitution included a list of codes of conduct for public officials, the CCB was founded in 1979.
However it wasn't until the Babangida administration in 1989 that it received a formal mandate.
According to the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act, Chapter 58 LFN 1990, the Bureau is required, among other things, to receive asset declarations from public officials, review the declaration, hold onto the declaration, and provide it to any Nigerian citizen upon the terms and conditions set forth by the National Assembly.
Tinubu stated that he anticipates the newly appointed chairman, if confirmed by the Senate, to steer the Bureau with the highest integrity in order to fulfill its objective, which is to uphold public moral standards in the conduct of government operations.
“The new Chairman must also ensure that the actions and behaviour of public officers conform to the highest standards of morality and accountability,” the statement read.
