Qatar has made a U-turn on its decision not to host the business and investment forum proposed by President Bola Tinubu during his visit.

The business and investment forum that Nigeria proposed to hold on March 2, 2024, during President Bola Tinubu's visit to the Arab nation, has been accepted by Qatar.

A leaked memo from February 24, 2024 revealed that Qatar had rejected the proposed investment forum due to the minister of commerce and industry, Mohammed Bin Hamad Al-Thani, not being available.

Furthermore, the Qatari embassy in Abuja stated that there is no agreement between Nigeria and the Arabian nation regarding the promotion of investment.

The new development was revealed in a memo sent to Nigeria's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on February 23, 2024, by the Qatari embassy.

Qatar embassy said: “Regarding the upcoming State visit of H.E. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Qatar from 2nd-3rd March 2024 and with reference to our Note: Ref: QEA/FA/057/24 dated 22/02/2024 regarding holding of a Business and Investment Forum (BIF) on the margins of Mr. President's visit to Qatar on 2nd March 2024.”

“The Embassy has the honour to convey that the Qatar Chamber of Commerce will host the above mentioned event on 3rd march 2024, as proposed by the Nigerian side.”

The Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (NACCIMA) announced on February 24 that the investment forum that was scheduled to take place in Qatar remains intact.

NACCIMA stated that in an effort to dispel the uncertainty surrounding the forum, it was in discussions with relevant authorities and stakeholders.
