Nigeria is incredibly impoverished, according to Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu's assistant

Nigeria is a “very poor country,” according to the Presidency, which also claims that the country's wealth is exaggerated.

This was said by Bayo Onanuga, the President's Special Advisor on Information and Strategy, during a Monday, February 12, 2024, interview on Arise Television.

Considering its low per capita income in comparison to other African countries, Onanuga claims that Nigeria is still a very impoverished nation. “Nigeria is a very very poor country, to be honest. I think our wealth is overestimated.”

The administration “is hoping that the pressure on our finances will reduce” with the elimination of gasoline subsidies and the unification of the exchange rate, the presidential aide continued.

Onanuga, meanwhile, refuted assertions that the Tinubu-led administration continues to owe federal employees emoluments. He stated, “The office of the AGF has said there is a challenge with the platform being used to disburse the salaries.” he continued.
