The offence which H.E Yahaya Bello is alleged to have committed upon which he has been named in the count is conspiracy to convert the total sum of N80,246,470,089.88 (Eighty Billion, Two Hundred and Forty Six Million, Four Hundred and Seventy Thousand, Eighty Nine Naira, Eighty Eight Kobo).

Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State, was accused of corruption by the EFCC a few days after his term ended. The charges included the diversion of more than N80 billion.

Mr Bello handed over to his successor, Usman Ododo, after eight years in office on 27 January and, days later, was charged by the EFCC.

The anti-graft agency made no effort to bring a new lawsuit to court. It merely added the former governor as a co-defendant and added a few more counts to the already-existing charges against him, which included allegations that he and his associate had diverted Kogi State funds.

The Kogi State Government was accused of converting N80.2 billion (N80,246,470,089.88) to Mr. Bello's personal use in the amended case. Abdulsalami Hud (Kogi State Government House Cashier), an alleged co-conspirator, was said to be at large.
