Alan Shearer Was Displeased With What VAR Did During Yesterday's Liverpool Vs. Chelsea Match
Alan Shearer has now been discussing his annoyance at a decision VAR made during Liverpool's win over Chelsea yesterday.
Mauricio Pochettino's team and Jurgen Klopp's team ended up with a lot of wasted opportunities.
And while many fans were disappointed with their missed opportunities after the game, maybe it would have been wiser to give Caoimhin Kelleher and Djordje Petrovic some credit instead.
Both goalies produced some incredible saves, and if the game had gone to penalties, they might have even been difficult to beat.
However, Djordje Petrović was ultimately defeated twice in the final by Virgil van Djik, with one of his attempts being disqualified.
Although Chelsea supporters rejoiced when VAR intervened and declared Liverpool's goal offside, Alan Shearer was unimpressed.
Shearer expressed his opinion on the “The Rest is Football” podcast today, saying that he was relieved that Liverpool won the match.
Speaking on the podcast, Shearer expressed concern about how intense Klopp's response might have been if Liverpool hadn't won.
He said: “I couldn't understand it either. Chilwell was marking Van Dijk, not Colwill. He might have got there, he may not have got there.
“But once the on-field decision was given you need something massive to overturn that, especially when it's something so subjective.
“But from a Liverpool point of view luckily they won it because I think it was such a huge decision and a wrong call, you can imagine the reaction from Klopp at the end of the game if it hadn't gone for them.
“I just didn't like the decision at all.”
Of course, even if they were happy to maintain parity with Liverpool at the time, many Chelsea supporters will undoubtedly concur with Shearer in retrospect
