The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has seized the passports of the suspended Ministers
The travel documents of Hajiya Sadiya Umar-Farouq, the previous minister, and Dr. Betta Edu, the suspended minister of humanitarian affairs and poverty alleviation, were confiscated by the EFCC yesterday.
Halima Shehu, the suspended National Coordinator of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), had her international passport seized by the EFCC as well.
The three are being questioned regarding claims that they committed financial crimes.
Administrative bail was granted to them contingent on the seizure of their passports.
The commission is to hold the travel documents until the investigation is finished.
EFCC source said: “We have asked all those under interrogation to submit their travelling documents. We have seized the passports of Betta, Sadiya, Halima and others.
“For Betta, who was grilled from 11 am till 6 pm, she was the last to be granted bail yesterday.
“We demanded their passports to restrict their movement, to enable them to be available for interrogation. They are all cooperating with us.”
The three bank managing directors were reportedly questioned about their alleged conspiracy, according to sources.
The banks were charged for their blatant involvement in dubious transactions and for failing to raise “red flags.”
Sections 5, 10, and 16(b) of the Anti-Money Laundering Act (Amendment) 2023 were allegedly broken by the banks.
