ABSU deputy vice-chancellor kidnapped in Umuahia The deputy vice-chancellor for academics at Abia State University (ABSU), Godwin Emezue, has been kidnapped in Umuahia.
The incident was verified by Maureen Chinaka, the Abia police command spokesperson, in a statement on Saturday.
According to Chinaka, Emezue was abducted on Friday night at 7 p.m. while he was at a gas station in Umuekwu Amachara, Umuahia South LGA.
The police PRO stated that during the incident, the DVC's wife's ATM card was taken by the thugs.
Chinaka claimed that the police had been given information, and that after that, they had dragged the academic into a Lexus SUV and taken off.
In order to help the police save the DVC, the PRO asked the public to cooperate by providing information.
She also urged the people of Abia to keep their composure and carry on with their daily activities while being alert and mindful of their safety.
Emezue was at a gas station in Umuekwu Amachara, Umuahia South LGA, when the kidnapping happened on Friday night, according to Chinaka.
The DVC's wife's ATM card was seized by the thugs during the incident, according to the police PRO.
Chinaka said that they then dragged the academic into a Lexus SUV and left, according to information given to the police.
The PRO called on members of the public to assist law enforcement by supplying information that might result in the DVC's rescue.
In addition, she urged the people of Abia to keep their composure and carry on with their daily activities while being alert and mindful of their surroundings.
“The Abia state police command is deploying resources and assets including intelligence and technical aid towards unravelling the crime, and safely rescuing the victim from his captors,” Chinaka's statement reads in part.
