An explosion in downtown Fort Worth on Monday afternoon left at least 21 people injured and caused significant damage to a hotel, likely due to a gas leak



A gas explosion at a hotel in Texas, USA, on Monday afternoon, January 8, injured twenty-one people.


The ATF and Fort Worth Fire Department claim that a natural gas leak was the cause of the explosion that destroyed at least two floors of the high-rise, historic downtown Fort Worth hotel.


According to AP news, the explosion threw doors and whole wall sections onto the street in front of the 20-story hotel. Rescue workers discovered multiple people trapped in the basement, according to the authorities.


Fifteen were taken to hospitals; of those, six had “semi-critical” conditions according to MedStar, Fort Worth's ambulance and emergency medical services provider.


The Sandman Hotel, at 810 Houston St., was the scene of the regrettable incident, which happened at approximately 3:30 p.m., according to the Fort Worth Fire Department.
