FG Settles The 15-month Dispute Between RTEAN And Lagos Gov., Ribadu Steps In
The Federal Government has resolved the crisis between the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, RTEAN and Lagos State Government
It was learned that during a meeting with the organized labor leadership, National Security Advisor Nuhu Ribadu mediated a peace agreement.
Remember that following the association's leadership crisis, the RTEAN's operations were prohibited in Lagos State for a period of fifteen months.
As a result, the state government outlawed the association and named a 35-member Caretaker Committee to assume control of the union's operations.
But thanks to the National Security Advisor's intervention, all contentious issues have now been resolved amicably.
RTEAN General Secretary Comrade Yusuf Ibrahim Adeniyi said that the crisis was resolved as a result of certain agreements made at the Federal Government and organized labor meeting.
He claims that with the unanimous selection of comrade Adesina Teslim Hussaini, popularly known as Okolomo, as the new state chairman of RTEAN Lagos state, effective January 1, 2024, the divisive question of RTEAN leadership has been resolved.
He said that it was also decided to return all properties that had been taken from the union, and that RTEAN operations in all of Lagos State's motor parks would start up again right away.
“No member of RTEAN will be victimized by the union or Lagos state Government for their role in the dispute,” he added.
Adeniyi urged RTEAN members to carry out their responsibilities in tandem with the government and security agencies, and to adhere to the amicable resolution that was reached.
In response, RTEAN President Musa Maitakobi declared that the members of the Lagos State Executives Council would no longer be part of the union and that Okolomo would be officially appointed as the head of the Lagos state branch of RTEAN.
He claimed that in the interest of maintaining harmony and peace in the state, members who had been suspended due to the matter had been called back.
For his part, Okolomo praised Ribadu, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, President Bola Tinubu, and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila for their roles in settling the conflict.
