President Bola Tinubu has been targeted by former vice president and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 election.

Abubakar accused Tinubu of meddling in Nigeria despite the country's deteriorating security in a post on Tuesday on X.

Currently, the president is on a “private visit” in Paris, France.

If Tinubu feels that the responsibilities of the president's office are too great for him, Abubakar has asked him to “step aside” in the post.

He said that two traditional rulers in Ekiti state and a grandmother in the nation's capital had been murdered by kidnappers while the president was away.

According to the former vice president, the nation requires leadership that is available around-the-clock to combat insecurity and improve the failing economy.

"Tinubu is playing fiddle while Nigeria is drowning in the ocean of insecurity," he posted.

“To imagine that the Commander-in- Chief is on a so-called private visit while kidnappers kill a nursing mother and grandmother in Abuja for failing to pay N90m ransom and two monarchs in Ekiti, among other regular tragedies besetting Nigerians.

“If the shoes are too big for Emilokan, he should step aside. Nigeria does not need another Tourist-in-Chief. The country needs 24/7 leadership to confront the pervasive insecurity and collapsing economy.”

Tinubu is anticipated to return to the nation during the first week of February.
