AFCON 2023: Super Eagles Defeat Cameroon With Two Goals From Ademola Lookman.

Nigerian Super Eagles Ademola Lookman And Victor Osimhen 

The Super Eagles of Nigeria advanced to the 2023 AFCON quarterfinals by defeating the tenacious Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.

The man of the moment was Ademola Lookman, a forward for Atalanta, rather than the usual suspect, Victor Osimhen of Napoli.

Nigeria began the 2023 AFCON round of 16 with a bang when Semi Ajayi scored the game's first goal in the tense encounter's 12th minute. However, a VAR check disallowed the goal for offside.

The Indomitable Lions, particularly in the midfield, were able to play a very balanced game against the Super Eagles thanks to the decision, which also helped them settle into the game.

However, as they surged ahead and generated more opportunities, the Nigerian team appeared more encouraging.

The Nigerian fans were thrilled that Francis Uzoho, who had to replace him after receiving a lot of criticism, didn't face any serious threats during the match.

Ademola Lookman again took advantage of Calvin Bassey's exquisite cross into the box to double the Eagles' lead in the ninetieth minute, relieving some of the pressure on the Nigerian team.

The match ended 2-O in favor of the Eagles, and that goal made the 10 minutes of extra time seem like a non-issue for the Nigerian team and the supporters of the nation present in the stadium and around the globe.

This means that on February 2, 2024, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will play Angola in the 2023 AFCON quarterfinals. Cameroon will now concentrate on the World Cup qualifiers in 2026.
