Lagos Sacks Five LASTMA Officials For Corruption, Reprimands Two Others
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has terminated the appointments of five of its officers
In light of corruption, the Lagos State Government fired five members of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and censured two more.
The Personnel Management Board (PMB) terminated their appointments because, according to a statement released on Monday by Adebayo Taofiq, Director of LASTMA's Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, they “found them wanting.”
He said that the indicted LASTMA officials received letters of reprimand and termination of appointments.
Adebayo affirmed that the Lagos State Civil Service Commission had approved every recommendation the Personnel Management Board had made regarding the seven LASTMA officials who had been indicted during their meeting on Tuesday, August 19, 2023.
Adebayo expressed, “While Five LASTMA officials who were indicted for corruption received a letter of termination of appointment, the remaining two received letters of 'reprimand' for absence from duty posts without leave.”
The disciplinary action taken, according to Mr. Bakara Oki Olalekan, Acting General Manager of LASTMA, was in accordance with the current regulations as directed by the Lagos State Civil Service Rules and Regulations.
According to Oki, the agency would only improve if and when the public shared their experiences—both good and bad—and, if necessary, provided proof of any alleged misdemeanors
He pleaded with Lagos drivers to always abide by the State Traffic Law in order to avoid breaking the law and facing the penalties that are stipulated in the law.
As per his statement, “This is necessary for all of us to promote a Greater Lagos for the benefit of all and the realization of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu's objectives in the First Pillar of the THEMES Plus Development Agenda (Traffic Management and Transportation).
“We wish to add by informing well-meaning and concerned Lagos residents and the motoring public that we have various windows through which complaints can be channeled for prompt action-08100565860, 08129928515, 08129928503, (08129928597 WhatsApp only) & Provost on 08129928490.”
