Jumia Food will depart from Nigeria and six additional African nations by the end of 2023

It is reported that by the end of December 2023, Jumia plans to close Jumia Food, its food delivery service in Nigeria, and to withdraw from a number of other African nations, including Kenya, Morocco, Ivory Coast, Tunisia, Uganda, and Algeria.

Procter & Gamble recently declared that it was closing its Nigerian manufacturing facility, which is when this decision was made.

Jumia intends to concentrate on its primary physical goods business and the Jumia Pay platform throughout its eleven operational nations.

Jumia Food has struggled to turn a profit even though it made up 11% of Jumia's Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) in the first nine months of 2023.

The action is a reflection of the company's choice to give priority to regions with higher growth potential.

Furthermore, Bolt Food, a prominent participant in the African food delivery industry, has declared its intention to withdraw from both Nigeria and South Africa in December 2023, citing a combination of economic downturns, elevated inflation, and intense competition as driving forces.
