FG would introduce a mortgage program for Nigerians living in the UK, the US, and Canada in 2024
When Dangiwa received Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, and a few members of the management staff in his Abuja office, he made this statement prior to the planned launch of the Diaspora Mortgage Housing Scheme in the UK, USA, and Canada in February 2024.
This was required because the approximately 20 million Nigerians who live abroad send home an average of more than $24 billion a year, and their contributions are crucial to supporting the Nigerian economy.
This information was disclosed in an Abuja meeting with some management staff and Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission.
The Minister stressed in a statement released on Wednesday and signed by Gabriel Odu of the NiDCOM Protocol Unit.
The Minister said, “The overall goal is to ensure that as our brothers and sisters sojourn abroad, they also have a decent shelter over here in Nigeria to call their home.”
Arch. Dangiwa went on to say that the Federal Housing Authority is dedicated to carrying out its tripartite mandate, which includes working with NIDCOM, FHA, and FCT on the Diaspora City Project.
According to the statement, the project, which is located at Maitama 2, covers an area of more than 675 hectares.
Abike Dabiri-Erewa had earlier praised the Minister for his dedication and involvement in the Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit's Diaspora Mortgage Scheme launch.
She emphasized how excited Nigerians living abroad are about the Diaspora mortgage program and the upcoming Diaspora smart city in Kabusa, Maitama, Federal Capital Territory.
